Dr. Sylvia Kohn-Rich, The Aerospace Corporation
Dr. Sylvia Kohn-Rich currently works at Aerospace's Civil and Commercial Launch Projects Division, supporting rocket launch operations as well as performing business development in Unmanned Aerial Systems. She’s also passionate about STEAM, and lead a panel on the future of UAS education and jobs at IDE 2015.
Sylvia earned her B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Aerospace (Control Systems) at the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology) and a PhD in Aerospace (Robust Fuzzy Logic Control Systems) at the University of Southern California, where she was later on a lecturer professor on Spacecraft Dynamics for 2 years. She was previously the Specialty Engineering integrated project team lead at Program Office for the Next Generation GPS Ground System (OCX), leading teams in GPS accuracy of position, navigation and timing, signal integrity, Human Systems Integration and Reliability-Maintainability-Availability. Sylvia’s prior assignment at Aerospace focused on cost-schedule-technical and management processes integrated risks assessments for the AIr Force's Program Offices. Her previous projects at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems include LCROSS (discovered water in the moon), JWST (large-scale space telescope), STSS and UCAS-D (carrier-based unmanned aircraft system). At Boeing, her responsibilities spanned Software and Systems Engineering for advanced commercial and military space systems. In Israel, Dr Kohn-Rich worked for Tiltan System Engineering (formerly part of IBM's Special Projects Division) as Project Lead for Nap-Of-the-Earth (NOE) flight path planning for UAVs, modeler for voxel-based photo-realistic supercomputer-driven simulations, and other projects. Dr Kohn-Rich was also a consultant for Exakt Entertainment for their video game "Supercar Street Challenge", designing Artificial Intelligence for the computer-controlled racing cars based on Fuzzy Logic.
